Tizanidine-d4 is a deuterium labeled version of Tizanidine, a skeletal muscle relaxant and central α2-adrenoceptor agonist. It works by inhibiting the release of excitatory amino acids from spinal cord interneurons, reducing muscle spasticity. Tizanidine-d4 also shows anti-injury activity, can inhibit GI transport, and may inhibit proliferation, migration, and invasion of lung cancer cells by inducing cell apoptosis through specific signaling pathways. It is used to treat spasticity from conditions like multiple sclerosis, stroke, and spinal cord injury.
