It is used in research to study the susceptibility of farmed fish to infectious diseases. In vivo studies showed that oral administration of 1200 mg/kg for 30 days stimulated the seabream's non-specific immune system and enhanced serum haemolytic activity and phagocytosis of head-kidney leucocytes.
