Inhibit histone deacetylase (HDAC)1 and HDAC6 with Trichostatin A (Furumai et al. Proc Natl Acad Sci USA, 2001; Yoshida et al. J Biol Chem, 1990). This epigenetic modifier increases the reprogramming efficiency of mouse embryonic fibroblasts to induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells (Huangfu et al. Nat Biotechnol, 2008). It promotes differentiation of hepatocytes from human mesenchymal stem cells (Snykers et al. BMC Dev Biol, 2007) and prevents dedifferentiation of primary rat hepatocytes in culture, maintaining liver-specific cellular functions (Henkens et al. Toxicol Appl Pharmacol, 2007). Trichostatin A also resets epigenetic memory in mouse iPS cells, in combination with 5-Azacytidine (Kim et al. Nature, 2010).
