Validamycin A is an antifungal compound.  It is a naturally occurring aminocyclitol glycoside and belongs to the class of compounds known as validamycins. 

The primary mode of action of validamycin A involves inhibiting trehalase, an enzyme responsible for breaking down trehalose, a type of sugar. Trehalose is important for fungal cell wall integrity and function. By interfering with trehalose metabolism, validamycin A disrupts the fungal cell structure and inhibits its ability to thrive, ultimately leading to the suppression of fungal growth.
