WST-3 is a water-soluble tetrazolium dye used as a colorimetric electron-transfer indicator in NADH-dependent assays. In the presence of an electron mediator, it is reduced by NADH to a water-soluble formazan that has an absorption maximum at 433 nm, allowing spectrophotometric quantification of reducing equivalents in cell viability and enzyme activity assays.
