XLD Agar with Novobiocin is a selective and differential culture medium used for the isolation of Salmonella species from clinical, food, and environmental samples. The base formulation contains xylose, lysine, and deoxycholate to differentiate enteric organisms through carbohydrate fermentation and hydrogen sulfide production. The addition of novobiocin enhances selectivity by inhibiting competing gram positive organisms and certain gram negative bacteria. Each plate contains approximately 20mL of prepared medium dispensed in a standardized 15x100mm monoplate format. This ready to use medium is widely applied in food microbiology laboratories, public health testing, and environmental monitoring programs for improved recovery and identification of Salmonella organisms.
