Limonin is a natural product isolated from Dictamnus dasycarpus. It is known for its antiviral and antitumor activities, inhibiting HIV-1 and inducing apoptosis in human colon adenocarcinoma cells. In vitro studies show limonin's anti-proliferation effects on colon adenocarcinoma cells and pancreatic cancer cell lines, while in vivo research demonstrates its ability to significantly inhibit tumor growth in xenograft mouse models.
Inhibits HIV-1 with an EC50 of 60.0 μM.
Induces apoptosis in human colon adenocarcinoma cells with an IC50 of 54.74 μM.
Shows anti-proliferation effects on Caco-2 and HCT-116 cells.
Suppresses cell migration and invasion in HCT-116 cells.
Activates Erk and p38 MAPK pathways.
Significantly inhibits tumor growth in HCT-116 xenograft mouse models.

Limonin (CAS 1180-71-8) is a natural limonoid with inhibitory activities against carcinogenesis and HIV-1 replication It modulates apoptotic signaling pathways to induce apoptosis and suppress HIV-1 replication In in vitro studies limonin demonstrates dose-dependent inhibition of HIV-1 replication with an EC50 of approximately 60 M in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and monocyte/macrophage (M/M) cells In human hepatoma HepG2 cells limonin induces apoptosis by affecting relevant signaling pathways Animal studies show that limonin reduces tumor burden and incidence in DMBA-treated Syrian hamsters and inhibits colon adenocarcinoma development in azoxymethane (AOM)-treated rats Based on these pharmacological properties limonin holds research potential in HIV antiviral mechanisms and chemically-induced carcinogenesis models
