Nitric acid (HNO3) is a corrosive, toxic mineral acid; a strong oxidizing agent; and the primary reagent in nitration reactions. It is used to manufacture inks, dyes, fertilizer, plastics, polymers, and explosives. Fuming nitric acids contain over 86% HNO3.
