Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

Modified Dean-Stark receiver designed for solvents that are either lighter or heavier than water. The lower three-way PTFE stopcock allows for the withdraw or return of the distillate during the distillation process. With a 10/30 outer joint on the top of the vapor tube for a 3” immersion thermometer. Graduations are the same as CG-1261.

Condenser, 29/42 Joint, Reflux, 230 x 65mm. Compact high efficiency reflux condenser employs a double wall thimble shape bulb sealed into the outer jacket. Serrated hose connections for water connection extend through the outer bulb and have an O.D. of 10mm at the middle serration. While the overall height of this condenser is only 210-215mm, it has the efficiency of a standard 400mm Liebig or West condenser.

Similar to CG-1261 but with the uptake tube vacuum jacketed to improve distillation performance. The jacket eliminates the possibility of condensation or recrystallization of distillate in the sidearm. The 5ml has subdivisions of 0.20ml; 10ml has subdivisions of 0.1ml; the 20ml has subdivisions of 0.2 from 0 to 3ml and 0.5 from 3 to 20mL. Available with glass or PTFE stopcocks.

100mL Tube, Storage, 24/40 Outer Joint, Airfree, Schlenk. Similar to AF-0522, but cylindrical in shape. The 25 and 50mL sizes have a 0-4mm Chem-Vac™ Chem-Cap valve while the 100 and 350mL sizes have a 0-8mm valve size.
