Alkali Scientific Fluid D USP 200mL Bottle, 1/Pk
Fluid D is a sterile rinsing fluid prepared according to United States Pharmacopeia (USP <71>) requirements for sterility testing. Each bottle contains 200mL of 0.1% peptone water supplemented with 0.1% Polysorbate 80 (Tween 80). The formulation functions as Fluid A with the addition of a surfactant that assists in the testing of pharmaceutical products containing oils, ointments, creams, or lecithin. Polysorbate 80 acts as an emulsifier that breaks down surface tension and disperses oily residues that may trap microorganisms or clog filtration membranes. After a product sample has been filtered during sterility testing, Fluid D is used to rinse the membrane to remove bacteriostatic or fungistatic compounds that may remain in the residue. This ensures accurate microbial recovery and reduces the risk of false negative sterility test results.
