Scaffolds made from pharmaceutical grade poly-L-lactide (PLLA) are fixed to cell crowns in a 24-well plate. The cell crowns act as Boyden chambers for facilitating studies related to air-liquid interface culture, co-culture, complex tissue models, etc. The optimized design ensures thermal, chemical, and mechanical stability, while also providing substantial swelling capabilities and porosity, allowing efficient nutrient diffusion and thus preventing cellular waste build up.

The ibidi Culture-Insert family is developed for wound healing, co-cultivation, and migration assays of adherent cells. The Culture-Insert 2 Well consists of two wells, separated by a 500 µm wall. A proprietary biocompatible adhesive is applied to the underside of the Culture-Insert which allows it to adhere to any flat, clean, and dry surface. A cell suspension can be placed in the wells allowing the adherent cells to grow in the designated areas only. After cell cultivation, the Culture-Insert can be removed by using sterile tweezers.
