NEOGEN Presence Absence Broth, 500 g
Presence Absence Broth is used for the detection of coliform bacteria in water treatment plants or distribution systems using the presence-absence coliform test in a laboratory setting. Presence Absence Broth is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. The Presence Absence (PA) test is a presumptive detection for coliforms in water. The test is a simple modification of the multiple-tube procedure. One 100 mL test sample is inoculated into a single culture bottle to obtain qualitative information on the presence or absence of coliforms, through the presence or absence of lactose fermentation. This test is based on the principle that coliforms and other pollution indicator organisms should not be present in a 100 mL water sample. For more information visit https://www.neogen.com/solutions/Microbiology/presence-absense-broth

NEOGEN Mueller Hinton Agar II, 500 g
Mueller Hinton Agar II is used in antimicrobial susceptibility testing by the disk diffusion method. This formula conforms to Clinical and Laboratory Standard Institute (CLSI), formerly National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS).Mueller Hinton Agar II is based on the formula recommended by Mueller and Hinton for the primary isolation of Neisseria species. Mueller and Hinton selected pea meal extract agar as a simple transparent medium containing heat stable ingredients. During their modification, starch replaced the growth-promoting properties of pea extract, acting as a “protective colloid” against toxic substances. Bauer, Kirby, Sherris and Tuck recommended Mueller Hinton Agar for performing antibiotic susceptibility tests using a single disk of high concentration. For more information visit https://www.neogen.com/solutions/Microbiology/mueller-hinton-agar-2

NEOGEN Malt Extract Agar, 500 g
Malt Extract Agar is used for the cultivation of fungi and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. An acidic medium which will support the growth of most yeasts and molds whilst inhibiting most bacteria. It was first described by Thom and Church in 1926 in a study of Aspergillus spp. claiming the high carbohydrate content ensured rapid growth. Selectivity can be increased by further lowering the pH with the addition, after sterilization, of Lactic Acid (X037). It should be noted that excess heating of this medium together with its low pH can easily result in hydrolysis of the agar gel producing soft plates. Formula:Malt Extract - 30.0 g/LPeptone - 5.0 g/LAgar - 15.0 g/LFor more information visit https://www.neogen.com/solutions/Microbiology/malt-extract-agar

NEOGEN Modified Semi-Solid Rappaport-Vassiliadis (MSRV) Agar, 500 g
Modified Semi-Solid Rappaport-Vassiliadis (MSRV) Agar is used with Novobiocin for the rapid detection of motile Salmonella spp. and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. MSRV was developed in 1986 by De Smedt, Bolderdijk and Rappold as a rapid means of Salmonella detection. The medium, based upon Rappaport Vassiliadis broth, is inoculated directly from the preenrichment medium, in the center of the plate. Motile organisms spread from the center in the semi-solid agar, but non-salmonellas are inhibited by the selective agents. After overnight incubation the use of polyvalent salmonella antisera or a latex kit can confirm the presence of a Salmonella. For more information visit https://www.neogen.com/solutions/Microbiology/modified-semi-solid-rappaport-vassiliadis-agar

NEOGEN Letheen Broth Base without Tween, 500 g
Letheen Broth Base (no tween) is used with Tween 80 (Polysorbate 80) for the testing of samples containing quaternary ammonium compounds for antimicrobial activity in a laboratory setting. Letheen Broth Base (no tween) is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. In 1948, Weber and Black described the value of a highly nutritional solid medium containing neutralizing agents for quaternary ammonium compounds in sanitizers. The addition of Lecithin and Polysorbate 80 to Tryptone Glucose Extract (TGE) Agar resulted in a medium that effectively neutralizes quaternary ammonium compounds while testing germicidal activity. Letheen Agar is a modification of TGE Agar with the addition of Lecithin and Polysorbate 80.Letheen Broth Base was developed as a subculture medium for the neutralization of quaternary ammonium compounds in disinfectant testing. For more information visit https://www.neogen.com/solutions/Microbiology/letheen-broth-base-without-tween

NEOGEN Clostridium Difficile Agar Base, 500 g
Clostridium Difficile Agar Base (Brazier’s) is used with blood, Cycloserine, and Cefoxitin for the isolation of Clostridium difficile. Clostridium Difficile is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans.Brazier’s CCEY agar is the formulation currently used by the Anaerobe Reference Unit for the isolation of C. difficile, resulting from work initiated by Ken Phillips and Paul Levett, and completed by Jon Brazier. Based upon the market leading anaerobe medium, Fastidious Anaerobe Agar, it incorporates additional ingredients to improve the isolation and differentiation of C. difficile from samples.Cholic acid is present to promote spore germination following alcohol shock treatment, and p-hydroxyphenylacetic acid to enhance the production of p-cresol, a distinctive metabolite of C. difficile. For more information visit https://www.neogen.com/solutions/Microbiology/clostridium-difficile-agar-base

NEOGEN Potato Dextrose Agar, 500 g
Potato Dextrose Agar is used for the preparation and maintenance of fungal test strains used in the growth promotion test, suitability of the counting methods and negative controls as described in the Harmonized USP/EP/JP. Potato Dextrose Agar is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. A medium recommended by the Harmonized USP/EP/JP for the cultivation of fungi and specifically for the preparation of the Aspergillus brasiliensis test strain. Conforms to USP/EP/JP performance specification. The medium is commonly abbreviated to PDA. The extract from potato and dextrose provide a nutritionally rich base that encourages mold sporulation and pigment production. NEOGEN Bacillus cereus Agar Base (PEMBA), 500 g
Bacillus Cereus Agar Base is used with Polymyxin B and Egg Yolk Emulsion for the isolation and presumptive identification of Bacillus cereus and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of human disease.Holbrook and Anderson described a highly selective and diagnostic medium (PEMBA) for the isolation and determination of Bacillus cereus from food. The medium is formulated to detect small numbers of B. cereus in the presence of large number of contaminants. This medium differentiates B. cereus from other bacteria based on resistance to polymyxin, lack of mannitol fermentation, and presence of lecithinase. B. cereus can be found on vegetables, processed foods, and in nature. B. cereus causes gastrointestinal illness if the organism is allowed to proliferate. Outbreaks of foodborne illness have been associated with boiled and cooked rice, cooked meats, and cooked vegetables. For more information visit https://www.neogen.com/solutions/Microbiology/bacillus-cereus-agar-base-pemba
