Thermo Scientific™ Abgene™ 2D Barcoded 2mL Screw Cap Storage Tubes
Description
Thermo Scientific™ ABgene 2D Barcoded 2mL Screw Cap Storage Tubes are the perfect solution for larger-volume sample storage in most laboratory conditions down to -80°C. Our team has a strong reputation for supporting both equipment and consumables, and can demonstrate simple ways to improve larger-volume sample management in your laboratory using our 2D barcoded 2mL screw cap storage tubes coupled with the Thermo Scientific line of 2D barcode readers.
Secure Tracking
- 2D barcode‚ is visible‚ even in the harshest of laboratory conditions
- Instantly decode each tube's 2D barcode with the Thermo Scientific line of 2D barcode readers; scan the tube into any application or database, or integrate via various data export options
- Once sample data is stored, scan the tube using the database Find feature to instantly access sample information and identify the contents of each storage tube
Superior Design
- Save precious freezer space with an innovative, stackable, 6 × 8 microplate-footprint rack of 48 tubes with a familiar 2mL cryopreservation format
- Alphanumeric grid-referencing on rack and lid clearly display the storage tube location
- Externally threaded tubes prevent contamination
- Open rack bottom allows all barcodes to be read at once, saving time versus and allowing more efficient freezing and thawing
- Unlike other plastic or cardboard storage boxes, the stackable, secure rack also ensures your freezer stays organized for faster sample retrieval
- V-shaped internal well design reduces dead volume and improves sample recovery
Stringent Quality Control
- Each tube is scanned to ensure readability
- Each code is checked against a full database of all previously assigned 2Dcodes to ensure zero duplicates across the entire line of Abgene 2D barcoded storage tubes
- Each lot of storage tubes is leak tested to ensure the integrity and security of samples
Recommended for:
Individual sample retrieval; Instant sample identification; Secure identification of archived samples; Secure shipping of samples; Storage of genomic samples, DMSO dissolved compounds; Tracking of samples during manufacturing

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Yes, the Thermo Scientific 2D barcoded storage tubes can be stored in standard cryoboxes. However, we do not carry 2D barcode readers capable of reading a full box of 2D barcodes in this storage format.
The 2D barcode laser etching software includes algorithms that prevent the barcode generator from ever counting backwards, subsequently preventing the re-etching of any previously generated barcode. To verify the above procedure, several quality control checks are performed on the 2D barcodes including:
- Checking for light transmission through the barcode as light transmission will reduce readability
- Inspecting the barcode under magnification
- Reading the barcode on a full rack 2D barcode reader
- Checking the barcode against a database of previously etched 2D barcodes
As the above quality control steps are completed, defective storage tubes are discarded, replaced, and re-checked, ensuring that the 2D barcodes are 100% readable and have not been previously used. This quality control process is the reason why we cannot guarantee sequential 2D barcode printing within a single rack of 2D barcoded products.
The Thermo Scientific 2D barcoded storage tubes have been subjected in-house to consecutive liquid nitrogen freeze-thaws followed by submersion in boiling water. These tests did not cause any damage to the 2D barcode.
The 2D barcodes are made of the same material as the storage tubes and are resistant to standard lab chemicals.
The 2D barcode has a built-in ECC200 error barcode correction, which ensures that a damaged barcode is still readable as long as less than 25% of the barcode is missing.
