Description
Aluminum isopropoxide is a useful reagent in the synthesis of alkoxides, chelates and acrylates. It acts as an intermediate of pharmaceutical products like isophytol, testosterone, progesterone and ethisterone. Also used as the material of aluminate coupling agent. It is also used in alcoholysis and ester exchange reactions. In Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley (MPV) reduction, it is used as a catalyst for the reduction of ketones and aldehydes to their corresponding alcohols. It acts as a precursor to prepare alumina.
