Description
Calmodulin (CaM) is a calcium-binding protein found in all eukaryotic cells. It belongs to a structurally homologous family of proteins which includes troponin C, parvalbumin, and S-100. CaM is highly conserved among species, and all vertebrate CaMs have identical structures. Although CaM exists in abundance in many cells, it can be regulated by hormones and neurotransmitters in a variety of tissues and systems.
