Description
The most important opportunistic fungal pathogens include Cryptococcus neoformans, Candida and Aspergillus species, and the fungi that cause mucormycosis. C. neoformans resides and survives in an acidic phagolysosome. Disseminated cryptococcosis is accompanied by cryptococcal polysaccharides in the serum and the lack of cellular infiltrates in infected tissues. C. neoformans stimulates fetal blood lymphocytes to proliferate and stimulates proliferation of CD45RA+ cells from adults, indicating that it stimulates naive T cells.
Host Species: Mouse
Clone: CSFi
Isotype: IgG2b
Cross Reactivity: All strains of C neoformans
Epitope: Carbohydrate moiety occuring on one or two glycoproteins.
Immunogen: Formalin-treated encapsulated clinical isolate, CSF-1.
Molecular Weight: ∽50kDa and ∽90kDa
Positive Control: Brain tissue infected with C. neoformans.
Cellular Localization: Cell wall.
Ab-1 binds to glycoproteins with MWs of ∽50kDa and ∽90kDa found in the yeast cell wall, on its surface, and secreted into the culture medium. Binding of Ab-1 to cell-associated antigens opsonizes the yeast and enhances their phagocytosis. NeoMarkers' Ab-1 identifies all (encapsulated and acapsular) strains of C. neoformans and is suitable for staining of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues.
