It is used in the preparation of foaming and frothing agents, quaternary ammonium compounds, peniclins, photographic chemicals, synthetic resins, dyes and plasticizers and esters. It is also involved in the synthesis of (E)-(2-Iodovinyl)benzene by reacting it with diiodomethane.
