It is applied as a reagent for the detection and determination of cyanide. It is also used in an experimental procedure, done in order to remove linamarin in starch from cassava roots, by using plant cell wall-degrading enzymes, xylanase and cellulase. It was also used for spectrophotometric determination and quantization of urea in urine samples. It is also used in assay of cyanogenic compounds and determination of ammonia.

Solubility
Solubility in hot DMF is almost transparent. Soluble in formic acid.
