It is also used in flue gas desulfurization in fossil fuel power stations, production of toothpaste, ceramics/glazing applications, purification of iron from iron ore, and to clean tarnish on silver. It is used in the refining of sugar, as filler in thermosetting resins, as an abrasive, as an extender in paints, and as a formation-bridging filtercake-sealing agent in oil industry. It is used in swimming pools for controlling the pH, to improve the rigidity of polypropylene compounds.
