- Cyclosporin A is a non-polar cyclic oligopeptide produced by the fungus Tolypocladium inflatum
Applications
- It inhibits phosphoprotein phosphatase
- Cyclosporin A binds to the cellular protein cytophilin and inhibits the enzyme calcineurin
- Furthermore, it can induce apoptosis and inhibit angiogenesis induced by VEGF
- It exerts potent immunosuppressive activity on T immune cells, and causes reversible inhibition of immunocompetent lymphocytes in the G0- and G1-phase of the cell cycle
- It also suppresses the hepatitis C virus replication in cultured hepatocytes
