Gyrase is a type IA DNA topoisomerase and it is involved in bacterial DNA supercoiling.

  • Gyrase is the only type II isomerase that can introduce negative supercoils into DNA.
  • It is a tetramer composed of two A and two B subunits that form a 370 kDa holoenzyme.
