Invitrogen™ HIV1 Rev Group M Monoclonal Antibody (10)
Mouse Monoclonal Antibody
Supplier: Invitrogen™ MA171514
Description
This antibody reacts with HIV-1 Rev subtype B. It has been mapped to amino acids 34-40 (TRGARRN - subtype B a.a. consensus). This clone may also be referred to as 10 (03-002).
The HIV-1 Rev (regulator of expression of virion) protein is essential for the replication of HIV-1, especially in group M, which is the predominant and most widespread group of HIV-1 responsible for the global HIV epidemic. The Rev protein is encoded by the rev gene and plays a critical role in the nuclear export of unspliced and singly spliced viral mRNAs, which is crucial for the expression of structural proteins and the production of new virions. Structurally, Rev consists of an arginine-rich motif that allows it to bind to the Rev Response Element (RRE) within the viral RNA. This interaction facilitates the recruitment of the nuclear export receptor CRM1, which, along with other cofactors, translocates the RNA out of the nucleus. Functional disruption of Rev or its interaction with RRE significantly impedes HIV-1 replication, making these interactions potential targets for antiretroviral therapies.
