Spectrum™ Chemical Hydrocortisone, Micronized, USP , otherwise known as Cortisol, is a glucocorticoid, a steroid hormone. Secreted in the adrenal cortex its function is to increase blood sugar through a process called gluconeogenesis. It suppresses the immune system and helps in the metabolism of protein, fat and carbohydrate. Recreated synthetically, it has been used to treat a variety of diseases. It can be administered by injection or orally and is used as an immunosuppressant to help treat severe allergic reactions. It can be administered locally and topically to help treat allergies such as eczema, psoriasis and other skin conditions. Spectrum Chemical USP products are manufactured, packaged and stored under current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) per 21CFR part 211 in FDA registered and inspected facilities.
