Introduce students to practical applications of scientific observation and reasoning.

• Add excitement to an art, chemistry or general science class
• Real and forged painting in the styles of Claude Monet (impressionist), Vincent Van Gogh (post-impressionist) and Jackson Pollack (abstractionist) are presented to students
• Students then determine which painting is original and which is forgery by using physical, chemical and microscopic methods of analysis
• Methods of analysis include testing for lead, testing for fluorescence and paint chip analysis
