  • Middlebrook 7H11 Agar is a specialized, agar-based culture medium for the selective isolation, cultivation, and susceptibility testing of Mycobacterium spp., including Mycobacterium tuberculosis, from clinical samples, especially those with mixed bacteria.
  • It is designed to grow fastidious mycobacteria, offering advantages like better drug retention for testing compared to older egg-based media, and facilitating rapid detection through microcolony methods.
  • This agar-based medium provides improved susceptibility testing compared to media based on coagulated egg (Lowenstein formulations) where drugs may be more easily inactivated.
