Description
The 1H9 monoclonal antibody specifically binds to S100 calcium binding protein A9 (S100A9), which is also known as Migration inhibitory factor-related protein 14 (MRP-14), Calgranulin-B (CAGB), Calprotectin L1H subunit, or Leukocyte L1 complex heavy chain. S100A9 is an ∽14 kDa member of the S100 family of EF-hand calcium-binding proteins. S100A9 is expressed in granulocytes, monocytes, and some secretory epithelial cells. A soluble form of S100A9 can also be found in the serum. S100A9 functions as a chemoattractant for neutrophils and monocytes. S100A9 can associate with another S100 family member, S100A8 (also known as, MRP-8) to form a MRP-8/14 heterodimer called Calprotectin or Cystic fibrosis antigen (CFAG). The heterodimer has a wide range of functions, such as playing roles in arachidonic acid metabolism and stimulation of the innate immune system through its interaction with CD284 (Toll-like receptor 4/TLR4).
