- Mueller Hinton II Agar (Sheep Blood 5%) is a medium recommended for antimicrobial susceptibility testing of Streptococcus spp. and Neisseria meningitidis by the disc diffusion technique (Kirby-Bauer method), as standardized by the Clinical and Laboratory Standard Institute (CLSI).
- Mueller Hinton II Agar (Sheep Blood 5%) is manufactured to contain low levels of thymine and thymidine and controlled levels of calcium and magnesium ions.
- The sheep blood provides essential nutrients for these less robust bacteria, which would not grow well on unsupplemented Mueller Hinton Agar.
