Description

Inhibits mitochondrial ATPase and phosphoryl group transfer. Oligomycin, MP Biomedicals is a natural antibiotic isolated from Streptomyces diastatochromogenes. It is a mixture of oligomycins A, B, and C.

Oligomycin is used as antibiotic which inhibits respiration in mitochondria. It inhibits ATP synthase by blocking its proton channel (F0 subunit), which is necessary for oxidative phosphorylation of ADP to ATP (energy production).
