Thermo Scientific™ Eosin Methylene Blue Agar (Modified) (Levine) (Dehydrated)
Description
Detect, enumerate and differentiate the members of coliform group with Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Eosin Methylene Blue Agar (Modified) Levine (Dehydrated). This versatile medium, modified by Levine1,2, is used for the differentiation of Escherichia coli and Enterobacteria aerogenes and also for rapid identification of Candida albicans. The medium is prepared to the formula specified by the APHA3,4,5,6 for the detection and differentiation of the coliform group of organisms7,8.
Use Eosin Methylene Blue Agar (Modified) Levine for isolation and differentiation of Enterobacterioceae.
- Easy-to-read: due to Eosin–Y and methylene blue indicators Escherichia coli (purple colonies with green metallic sheen) are easy to differentiate from Enterobacteria aerogenes (purple mucoid colonies).
- Recommended for the detection, enumeration, and differentiation of members of the coliform group by American Public Health Association.
Weld9,10 proposed the use of Eosin methylene blue agar (Modified) Levine, with added chlortetracycline hydrochloride for the rapid identification of Candida albicans in clinical materials. A positive identification of Candida albicans could be made after 24 to 48 hours incubation at 37°C in 10% carbon dioxide from feces, oral and vaginal secretions, and nail or skin scrapings.
