Membrane Lauryl Sulphate Broth has been recommended1,2 as a standard medium for the enumeration of coliform organisms and Escherichia coli from water and sewage by membrane filtration technique.

Membrane Lauryl Sulphate Broth is similar to Membrane Enriched Teepol Broth except teepol has been replaced by sodium lauryl sulphate. Sodium lauryl sulphate was found to be an adequate reproducible substitute1.
