Thermo Scientific™ D/E (Dey-Engley) Neutralizing Broth
Description
Neutralize chemical disinfectants to confirm bacteriostatic and bactericidal activity in environmental sampling procedures with D/E Neutralizing Broth.
Neutralize chemical disinfectants to distinguish bacteriostatic and bactericidal activity in environmental sampling procedures using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ D/E (Dey-Engley) Neutralizing Broth. This medium was formulated by Engley and Dey in 1970 for neutralizing and testing antiseptics and disinfectants1. It is recommended in the Compendium of Methods for the Microbiological Examination of Foods by the American Public Health Association (APHA) for environmental sampling2.
Neutralize chemical disinfectants to distinguish bacteriostatic and bactericidal activity in environmental sampling procedures using D/E (Dey-Engley) Neutralizing Broth. The medium can neutralize a range of chemicals including mercurial, iodine or chlorine preparations, quaternary ammonium compounds, formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde.
- Ready to Use: Convenience of prepared media.
- Easy to Identify: As dextrose is utilized by the bacteria the pH indicator changes from a purple to yellow color.
- Easy to differentiate: Subculture all tubes of D/E Neutralizing Broth to appropriate media such as D/E Agar to observe growth (viable microorganisms).
- Bacteriostatic substance – Growth from negative D/E Neutralizing Broth tubes.
- Bactericidal substance – No growth from negative D/E Neutralizing Broth tubes.
- Recommended in the Compendium of Methods for the Microbiological Examination of Foods by the American Public Health Association (APHA) for environmental sampling.
This medium contains peptone and yeast extract that provide nutrients such as amino acids, peptides, nitrogenous compounds, and B-complex vitamins which are necessary for growth. Dextrose provides energy, lecithin neutralizes quaternary ammonium compounds, polysorbate 80 neutralizes phenolics, thioglycolate neutralizes mercurials, sodium thiosulfate neutralizes iodine and chlorine preparations and sodium bisulfate neutralizes formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde. This medium is suitable for environmental sampling where neutralization of the chemical is important to determine its bactericidal activity.
