Dextrose, starch, and dextrin are ready sources of energy. Sodium chloride and metallic salts provide essential electrolytes that help to maintain osmotic equilibrium. Yeast extract acts as a source of vitamins. Chloramphenicol is the antibiotic that acts as a selective agent and inhibits the growth of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
