Isolate and cultivate Mycobacterium spp. using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Middlebrook 7H10 Agar (Dehydrated). Dubos and Middlebrook developed media formulations containing oleic acid and albumin which enhanced the growth of tubercle bacilli and protected the organisms against a variety of toxic agents1. In 1958, Middlebrook and Cohn improved the first formulation of oleic acid and albumin agar to obtain 7H10 Agar, which allows faster and more luxuriant growth of Mycobacterium species2.

Isolate and cultivate Mycobacterium spp. using Middlebrook 7H10 Agar.

  • Selective: For Mycobacterium spp from other bacteria due to the presence of malachite-green dye.
  • Allows luxuriant growth of Mycobacterium

This medium is used for qualitative procedures. This medium contains inorganic salts which are essential for the growth of mycobacteria. Malachite-green dye acts as a selective agent which partially inhibits bacteria other than mycobacteria.
