Cultivate a wide variety of microorganisms using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Mueller Hinton Broth with Cations. Mueller Hinton formulated this medium as a protein-free medium for the purpose of isolating pathogenic Neisseria1. This was later used for testing gonococci and other organisms for susceptibility to sulfonamides2,3. More recently, MH Broth with Cations has become useful as a general-purpose cultivation broth.

Cultivate a wide variety of microorganisms with Mueller Hinton Broth with Cations.

  • Divalent cations calcium and magnesium enrich the medium and serve to support the growth of fastidious microorganisms.
  • Ready-to-use Convenience of prepared media.

Mueller Hinton Broth is prepared with beef extract and acid digest of casein that supply amino acids, nitrogenous substances, and other nutrients which are necessary for bacterial growth. Starch serves as a growth factor and a protective colloid that neutralizes toxic products which may be formed during the growth of bacteria. Calcium and Magnesium are divalent cations that enrich the medium.
