Thermo Scientific™ Peptone Water (Dehydrated)
Description
Grow a wide variety of microorganisms with Peptone Water.
Grow a wide variety of microorganisms with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Peptone Water (Dehydrated). This basal medium is used as a growth and non-selective enrichment medium or as the basis of carbohydrate fermentation media. A pure culture in Peptone Water is a convenient inoculum for a series of fermentation tubes or other diagnostic media. This medium is based on the formulation of Shread, Donovan, and Lee1. It may be used for isolation of Enterobacteriaceae from foods2.
Peptone Water is recommended for studying the ability of an organism to ferment a specific carbohydrate, which aids in the differentiation of genera and species. Peptone Water, adjusted to pH 8.4, is suitable for the cultivation and enrichment of Vibrio cholerae from infected material. Peptone Water may be modified for use in carbohydrate fermentation tests by the addition of Andrade’s indicator.
Cultivate non-fastidious organisms using this minimal all-purpose medium. It is a non-selective enrichment medium. Peptone in the medium provides a source of necessary nutrients. Sodium chloride is a source of essential electrolytes and maintains osmotic equilibrium.
