Detect gram-negative microorganisms and perform sterility testing of cosmetics, topical drugs, and highly viscous substances such as salves and ointments using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ TAT Broth Base (Dehydrated). TAT Broth is also referred to as Fluid Casein Digest-Soy Lecithin Polysorbate 20 Medium. In 1976, Brummer reported lecithin and polysorbate 20 effectively neutralized chemical disinfectant residues which inhibited the growth of viable microorganisms1. It is recommended by the United States Pharmacopeia for use in microbiological examination of non-sterile products2.
TAT Broth is prepared according to the formulation recommended by the Food and Drug Administration3. TAT Broth is a non-inhibitory medium, used mainly for isolating contaminating bacteria in cosmetics, salves and creams4.
