Description

Detect and enumerate microorganisms present on surfaces of sanitary importance with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Tryptic Soy Agar w/Lecithin, Polysorbate 80 (Dehydrated).

Formulated by Weber and Black that lecithin added to an agar medium in sufficient concentration neutralizes quaternary ammonium compounds1. Brummer also tested the medium2. United States Pharmacopeia (USP)3 mentions Tryptin Soy Agar (TSA) that is prepared according to the formula for Soybean-Casein Digest Agar. Tryptic Soy Agar w/Lecithin, Polysorbate 80 (Dehydrated) is used in environmental air sampling procedures.

  • Neutralization easiness: attained by lecithin and polysorbate 80 that are added to residual compounds present on the materials that are sampled.

Tryptic Soy Agar w/Lecithin, Polysorbate 80 contains casein peptone and soy peptone, sodium chloride, and agar that help in growth of bacteria, maintains osmotic equilibrium, and acts as a solidifying agent, respectively.
