Supplier: BioVendor, LLC RTC019R

Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) canine ELISA. Research use only. Immunoassay kit for quantification of canine TSH in serum or plasma samples. Calibration range: 0.25.2 ng/ml. Detection limit: 0.01 ng/ml. Synonyms: thyrotropin, thyrotropic hormone. Summary: TSH in dogs is similar in function to TSH in other mammals, including humans. Acting on the thyroid gland, it plays a major role in maintaining normal levels of iodothyronines, T4 and T3. Production and secretion of TSH is controlled by negative feedback from circulating T4 and T3, and by TRH (thyrotropin releasing hormone). Hypothyroidism is common in dogs, whereas hyperthyroidism in dogs is nearly unknown. Usually, hypothyroidism in dogs is suspected on basis of clinical history and presence of lowered levels of thyroid hormones. However, lowered thyroid hormone levels are nonspecific indicators, as they are also observed in nonthyroid illnesses. Determination of canine TSH may improve evaluation of thyroid function in dogs.
