MIP-1, also known as Macrophage Inflammatory Protein-1, is a chemokine encoded by the CCL3 gene. This protein is a member of the CC chemokine family and plays a critical role in the immune response by recruiting and activating various types of leukocytes, including macrophages, T cells, and dendritic cells, to sites of infection or injury. MIP-1 is involved in the inflammatory response, promoting the release of other cytokines and chemokines that amplify the immune reaction.
