GLP-1(32-36)amide is a pentapeptide derived from the C-terminus of the glucoregulatory hormone GLP-1. It has been shown to inhibit weight gain and modulate whole-body glucose metabolism in diabetic mice. In vitro studies indicate that it retains cell viability and decreases apoptosis in INS-1 cells. In vivo, it protects islets from damage, inhibits weight gain, and relieves polydipsia symptoms in diabetic mice.
- Maintains cell viability and reduces apoptosis in INS-1 cells
- Protects islets from damage
- Inhibits weight gain
- Alleviates polydipsia symptoms in diabetic mice
- Slightly lowers mean glucose levels after a glucose challenge in normal mice
- Prevents the development of diet-induced obesity and hepatic steatosis in high fat-fed mice
