Life Science Buffers
Balanced salt solutions and powders used for molecular, protein, nucleic acid, and cell biology applications including cell culture, electrophoresis, ELISA, and chromatography processes; available in a variety of formulations and grades.
Buffer solutions serve to keep pH (acidity or alkalinity) nearly constant in a variety of chemical and biological applications. For example, a bicarbonate buffer helps maintain the pH of blood, a buffered saline maintains cellular contents at a consistent pH level, and buffers help maintain a narrow pH range for enzymes to function correctly.
Most biological samples used in research are kept at a pH of about 7.4. Common biological buffers used for tissue culture include Dulbeccos phosphate buffered saline (PBS), Tris base, HEPES, MOPS, PIPES, and other formulations developed for specific cell lines or applications. Most buffers used in cell culture are also DNase-, RNase-, and protease-free.
The choice of buffer for a particular biological reaction or site depends on several factors:
- Temperature
- Desired or target pH
- Buffer toxicity (to the system)
- Buffer interactions with other system components

LAB BIOREAGENTS LowBinding I Buffer 500ml
Lab Bioreagents LowBindings (I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII) are newly developed assay buffers that provides exceptional performance and broad compatibility for Western blot, ELISA, IHC and nucleic acid detection assays. The LowBindings helps to reduce the non-specific bindings, negative effects of interfering molecules, and cross-reactivities of antibodies and proteins from biomatrix. Therefore, LowBindings exhibit the low matrix interference and high signal-to-noise, by which the assay sensitivity and specificity have been significantly improved. As many factors are involved in immunoassays, there is no single assay buffer that is ideal for each assay. LowBindings (I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII) are a variety of buffers based on different formulations.

MES is a buffering agent used in biochemistry and molecular biology that was selected and described by Good et al It is a zwitterionic morpholinic buffer that is useful for a pH range of 5 5 6 7 and commonly used for cell culture media as a running buffer in electrophoresis and for protein purification in chromatography MES lacks the ability to form a complex with most metal ions and is recommended for use as a non-coordinating buffer in solutions with metal ions MES is often used in buffered culture media for bacteria yeast and mammalian cells It is toxic towards plants at high concentrations but can be used in culture media at lower concentrations for plants Due to low ionic mobility MES is regarded as an excellent buffer for use in capillary electrochromatography MES is often employed as a substitute for the highly toxic cacodylate as well as a substitute for the non-zwitterionic buffers citrate and malate
