Alumina Neutral (pH 6-8) with UV254, analytical, polyester backed TLC plates. The coating thickness is 200um and dimensions are 4x8cm. There are 50 plates per pack. Applications include: terpenes, alkaloids, steroids, aliphatic and aromatic compounds. To ensure sufficient adherence an inert organic binder is added to the aqueous suspension for coating. The aluminum oxide layer has a specific surface of about 200 m2/g (BET) and a pore size of about 60A. To activate the aluminum oxide layer, we recommend heating the TLC plates for 10 minutes at 120C.

Silica Gel G & GF UNIPLATES are the most widely used silica gel TLC plates. No organic substances are added to these products, thus making them compatible with sulfuric acid charring visualization. These plates are commonly scraped from the glass backing to isolate separated components for other analytical procedures. They are compatible with all organic solvents, however, they are not recommended for use in systems containing greater than 20% water because of the solubility of the gypsum binder in aqueous solutions. (For water tolerance see the GHL & GHLF series of plates.)

These silver nitrate impregnated silica gel plates are for argentation chromatography. They are impregnated with between 5% and 20% silver nitrate which modifies the separation characteristics of the adsorbent layer to permit increased discrimination of certain compounds, particularly those containing carbon-carbon double bonds. They are available with or without a fluorescent indicator. NOTE: The concentration of silver nitrate (5, 10, 15, or 20%) must be specified at the time of order. Cellulose 300 PEI, polyester backed TLC plates contain fibrous cellulose impregnated with polyethyleneimine. The coating thickness is 100um and dimensions are 20x20cm. There are 25 plates per pack. Applications include: analysis of nucleic acids, and of mutagenic substances with the 32P post-labelling procedure (see Sorbtech Application No. 402260.) Cellulose ion exchange layers are suited for the separation of substances with exchange-active groups. Consequently they are used for the separation of amino acids, peptides, enzymes, nucleic acid constituents (nucleotides, nucleosides) etc. PEI is not a chemically modified cellulose, but a complex of cellulose and poly- ethyleneimine. PEI cellulose is a relatively strong anion exchanger. PEI layers should be stored in a refrigerator at 4C. An important application of CEL 300 PEI is the analysis of mutagenic substances with a 32P postlabelling procedure.
