Frocks and Smocks

Frocks and smocks are garments worn to provide protection against various workplace hazards including dirt, dust, fluids, biological substances, chemicals, particles, fibers, or other contaminants. They are used in a variety of environments including manufacturing, healthcare, biotechnology, laboratories, and cleanrooms. Selection of specific type of frock or smock will depend on workplace hazards and requirements.

Frocks and smocks are available in disposable or reuseable styles. They are made from materials designed to provide protection as well as ease of movement such as polyester, polypropylene, microporous, or composite fabrics. Controlled environment specific frocks and smocks are made from materials that are low-linting and static dissipative. Frocks and smocks have zipper, snap, or tie closures and may feature pockets for storing smaller tools or personal items.

Frocks are longer garments that cover the body from the shoulders to the knees or ankles. They have a fitted or cinched waistline that flares out to a fuller skirt. Smocks are shorter and cover the upper body from the shoulders to the waist or hip area. They have a straight silhouette and are typically worn as overgarments.
