Augmentin is a combination of the well-known antibiotic amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium, a beta lactamase inhibitor. Despite amoxicillin's effectiveness against a wide range of bacterial pathogens, the antibiotic is known to be degraded by beta lactamase enzymes.
