Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use

What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

Barrett style distilling receiver used to determine the water content in petroleum or bituminous material. Receiver is made according to ASTM specifications, with the addition of the top outer standard taper joint and lower stopcock. The 2mL has sub-divisions of 0.02mL; the 5ml has subdivisions of 0.20mL; 10ml has subdivisions of 0.1mL; the 20mL has subdivisions of 0.2 from 0 to 3mL and 0.5 from 3 to 20mL. Available with glass or PTFE stopcocks.

Replacement vapor (steam) tube adapter for Bchi R-200/205 rotary evaporators. Adapters have a 50mm OD top flange with a tapered interior to fit the Bchi sealing ring. Lower portion of the adapter has the listed standard taper inner joint. Each tube is supplied complete with corresponding size Keck clip.NOTE: ITEMS WILL REPLACE THE BUCHI PART NUMBERS AS LISTED. Condenser has a 45/40 lower inner drip joint, a 19/38 stopcock plug, and removable hose connections using GL-14 threads. Condenser is supplied complete with PTFE centering ring along with plastic caps and serrated hose connections. Plastic coating is on the outer portion of condenser only.

Used between the vapor tube and evaporation flask on a rotary evaporator to prevent contents of the flask from being drawn into the condenser in the event of “bumping.” Traps have a 24/40 top outer joint and the listed size of lower inner joint.

Bump Trap, 100mL, Self Washing, Rotary Evaporator, 24/40 Top Outer, 29/26 Lower Inner. Trap is designed to eliminate hold up common to the round style of rotary evaporator traps. Tapered sidewalls permit continuous washing with condensed solvent while preventing vapor cooling points along the path of the condenser. The upper stem has 4 large holes flush with the lower end, allowing solvent vapor to flow freely and making this portion of the trap easy to clean. The increased volume of the trap prevents “bumping” and keeps solvent out of the vapor tube.

50mL Peptide Synthesis Vessel, Solid Phase, T-Bore PTFE Stpk, Vacuum, Coarse Frit, GL 25 Thread. Similar to CG-1864, but with the addition of a lower standard taper inner joint to allow collection into a vessel having a 24/40 outer joint. COARSE porosity fritted glass resin support. A serrated hose connection is sealed on the inner joint for connection to a vacuum source. The “T”-Bore stopcock has an 8mm O.D. sidearm for connection to nitrogen, while the serrated hose connection has an O.D. of 8mm at the middle ring.
