Samples are placed in tubes with the appropriate grinding beads and subjected to high energy mixing. The beads impact the sample, eventually breaking it down on the cellular level releasing subcellular contents. A variety of prefilled tubes are available for homogenizing samples including those with stainless steel, glass and Triple-Pure™ zirconium beads. These Prefilled 2.0mL tubes, Silica (Glass) Beads, 0.5mm Acid Washed, and come with standard acid-washed glass beads, triple-pure zirconium beads, or stainless steel beads. The triple-pure beads are molecular biology grade, and are acid washed, heat treated and tested free of nuclease. The stainless steel beads are acid-washed as well. All grinding bowls for the Planetary Micro Mill PULVERISETTE 7 premium line are delivered - as a standard – with a silicone seal ring. Due to this seal ring, the lid and grinding bowl are so tightly sealed that even grinding in suspension is possible absolutely problem-free.
When grinding in solvents or dry grinding of slightly caustic samples, we recommend our seal rings made of Viton (Article No. 84.0341.15) because they have a much higher chemical resistance.
