It is intended to be used as a replacement for xylene where the hazards associated with aromatic hydrocarbon vapors are to be reduced. Histosol is manufactured from petrochemical products and is miscible in all proportions with ethanol, isopropanol, and t-butanol. It is also miscible with all paraffin-based tissue embedding media and all permanent mounting materials.
