This gene encodes one of two cannabinoid receptors. The cannabinoids, principally delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol and synthetic analogs, are psychoactive ingredients of marijuana. The cannabinoid receptors are members of the guanine-nucleotide-binding protein (G-protein) coupled receptor family, which inhibit adenylate cyclase activity in a dose-dependent, stereoselective and pertussis toxin-sensitive manner. The two receptors have been found to be involved in the cannabinoid-induced CNS effects (including alterations in mood and cognition) experienced by users of marijuana. Multiple transcript variants encoding two different protein isoforms have been described for this gene.

Cell Biolabs’ HDL and LDL/VLDL Cholesterol Assay Kit is a simple fluorometric assay that can measure the amounts of HDL and LDL/VLDL cholesterol present in plasma or serum samples within a 96-well microtiter plate format. The kit provides reagents for separating and quantifying HDL and LDL/VLDL cholesterol. The assay will detect total cholesterol (cholesteryl esters plus free cholesterol) in the presence of cholesterol esterase or only free cholesterol in the absence of the esterase enzyme. Each kit provides sufficient reagents to perform up to 192 assays, including blanks, cholesterol standards and unknown samples. Sample cholesterol concentrations are determined by comparison with a known cholesterol standard. Cholesteryl esters can be quantified by subtracting the free cholesterol values from the total cholesterol value.

Oxidative stress is defined as an increase in the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) due to an imbalance between antioxidant and oxidants. Advanced Oxidation Protein Products (AOPP) are uremic toxins created during oxidative stress through the reaction of chlorinated oxidants, such as chloramines and hypochlorous acid, with plasma proteins. AOPPs are structurally similar to Advanced Glycation End-Product (AGE) proteins and exert similar biological activities. The OxiSelect™ AOPP Assay Kit offers a simple, reproducible, and consistent system for the detection of advanced oxidation protein products in plasma, lysates, and tissue homogenates. The CytoSelect™ LDH Cytotoxicity Assay Kit provides a colorimetric format for measuring cell cytotoxicity. Cells can be plated and then treated with compounds or agents that affect cell viability. Upon cell death, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), a soluble enzyme found in the cytoplasm, is released into the growth media. In the presence of lactate substrate, LDH converts lactate to pyruvate and generates nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH). The WST-1 molecule is converted to the orange formazan form. An increase in cell cytotoxicity is accompanied by increased LDH release and increased colorimetric signal. The assay principles are basic and can be applied to most eukaryotic cell lines, including adherent and non-adherent cells and certain tissues, depending on LDH expression levels. The LDH Cytotoxicity Reagent can be used to detect cytotoxicity in mammalian cells. The kit contains sufficient reagents for the evaluation of 960 assays in 96-well plates.
