Description
Ricin Recombinant Monoclonal Antibody for ELISA
Ricin is a highly toxic protein derived from the seeds of the castor plant, Ricinus communis. It functions as a type II ribosome-inactivating protein, inhibiting protein synthesis and leading to cell death. Ricin is composed of two subunits: the enzymatic A chain (RTA) and the binding B chain (RTB), which facilitate its entry into cells. Due to its high toxicity, ricin has been studied extensively for its potential use as a bioweapon, and efforts have been made to develop neutralizing antibodies as antidotes. These antibodies target both ricin isoforms D and E, providing protection by binding to and neutralizing the toxin. The development of these antibodies is crucial for therapeutic interventions against ricin poisoning, which can occur through ingestion, inhalation, or injection.
