It is primarily expressed in the testes but aberrantly overexpressed in various cancers, including lung adenocarcinoma, endometrial cancer, and colorectal cancer. ACTL8's overexpression is associated with enhanced cell mobility, proliferation, and colony formation, contributing to tumor growth and poor prognosis. The gene is believed to play a critical role in oncogenesis and is being investigated as a potential therapeutic target due to its involvement in tumorigenic processes.
